TOURNAMENT GUIDE

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to one of the biggest and best tournaments in Ireland…if not the world!! This guide is meant for people who don’t normally enter tournaments or who aren’t sure what happens but even those who play tournaments regularly might find something useful too! ACCOMMODATION

If you need accommodation for the week of the tournament please contact us as soon as possible. There is accommodation available at Stranmillis College which is only 4-5 min walk from the Boat Club. The cost is £28 per night or £38 per night including breakfast, lunch and dinner. This offer is open to players and family or coaches/guardians who are accompanying the players. «top»

UNDER 8 / UNDER 9EVENTS

The Under 8 mini and Under 9 midi events take place on Saturday 23rd July from 9am – 11.30am. The mini/midi events are a 1 day fun team tournament which include uni-hoc, football, dodgeball, face painting and bouncy castle as well as plenty of tennis and prizes for all players! There is a separate entry form for these events which is also available from the website. «top»

MAIN EVENTS

The main events are the normal singles, double and mixed doubles events. These events are open to anyone who is under the specified age limit on 31st December 2010. There will be prize money for the winners and runners-up with semi-finalists prize money depending on the number of entries in each event .«top»

NOVICE EVENTS

The novice events are for players who do not have as much experience at playing tournaments as others. They are only open to players who have never reached the 2nd round or further in a Tennis Ireland tournament (local club events do not count). Novice events are ideally suited to players who have never played in a tournament before. You will be guaranteed at least 2 matches and will not have to face playing the top players in the province or country. Prize money is awarded to both winners and runners up. «top»

UNDER 21 EVENTS

These events are for those who have recently left the ranks of junior tournaments. There is a minimum age limit of 16 for these events so you may, if you are under 18, play both the Under 18 and Under 21 events. Prize money is awarded to both winners and runners up. «top»

PLATES

Plates are for players who lose their 1st round match. At the Ulster Junior Open there are plates for all of the events including doubles events which means that for each event you enter you will be guaranteed to get a minimum of 2 matches. «top»

ARRIVING AT THE TOURNAMENT

When you arrive at the tournament the only thing that you have to do is go and check-in at the tournament desk and then you will be called when your match is ready to go on! «top»

ORDER OF PLAY

The order of play is produced each evening and is available on the website from 9.30pm. If you do not have access to the internet the order of play is also available by calling the Boat Club on 028 9066 5012. The order of play for the first day will be available from 9pm on Thursday 22nd July. «top»

ON COURT

When you are playing your matches all you have to do is enjoy it! If there are any problems or if you need any help then just come in and speak to one of the committee at the tournament desk. «top»

ENTERTAINMENT

When you are not on court there is plenty going on to keep you entertained! From pool, table tennis, movies and air hockey all week to uni-hoc, dodgeball and football tournaments in the evenings there is always a lot going on! Full details of the entertainment programme can be found in the entry form and on the website. «top»

TIEBREAK TOURNAMENT

This event is open to all players regardless of age or standard. It will take place on Thursday 28th July. Everyone who is there by the start time (TBA) will be entered into one big draw. The matches will be in the form of a handicapped short tie-break. Younger players will have a higher handicapped than older players and seeded players will have a lower handicap. «top»

COMPETITIONS

Before you even get to the tournament there are some competitions that you can enter with prizes ranging from tennis balls to new rackets, bags and t-shirts up for grabs! Full details of these are available in the entry form. «top»

FOOD AND DRINK

Food will be served all day at the club throughout the week. «top»

FINALS DAY

Saturday 30th July is the finals day for all the events with the exception of the Under 21 events. All plates, novice and main event finals will take place on Saturday. The main finals start at about 12pm. There is also a free B-B-Q for everybody during the finals and family and friends are very welcome to come and join us to watch the finals.
The presentation of prizes takes place at around 7pm. This will include the prizes and trophies from the tennis events as well as the prizes from all of the entertainment and competitions that have taken place throughout the week,
After the presentation there will be a tournament dinner for all players, family and friends. We cannot guarantee that there will still be tickets available on the day or event during the week so please book in advance by completing the number of tickets that you require on the entry form and including the relevant payment with your entry fees. «top»

HOW TO ENTER

Entering the tournament is simply a matter of either downloading an entry form and returning it to us or ENTER ONLINE HERE! Don’t forget to book your place for the dinner on Finals night!
